Why I’m Leaving the Wedding Industry: Part 1

2016-03-28_0007

I know you all probably saw this headline on my blog through your social media feeds and pulled it up to see what this post is all about. So I’m just going to cut to the chase with you all and let you know the big announcement. It is with a bittersweet heart that I have decided to leave the wedding photography industry starting in January 2017.

You all are probably wondering why I decided to leave. And am I crazy for leaving?  During my wedding photography career I have loved every second of the weddings that I have had the pleasure to photograph and the memories that I have captured for many families. From the beautiful wedding gowns, to the first looks, happy wedding day tears, the love, and much more…I have truly enjoyed the memories I have captured during my time as a wedding photographer.

But deep down in my heart, I have developed an overflowing passion and joy for something that I can hardly even begin to explain with words. And that passion is for those precious, little newborn babies. For some time now, it has been on my heart to leave the wedding industry so I could truly focus on continuing to grow my newborn photography business. And to do so, I need to dedicate more time and effort to build that aspect of my business.

Over the past year, I have done special newborn trainings to help me learn more as a newborn photographer, including a one-on-one full day mentorship with Leslie Ogrodowicz from Happy Bird Photography. Through these trainings, I have felt my heart continuously grow for these precious babies. I’ve also had a wonderful rise in newborn bookings that have deepened my love for the babies.

After lots of prayer over my business and talking this over with my Husband, we have felt the Lord calling me to pursue this passion of mine and for us to completely trust his plan in all of this.

“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.” -Proverbs 16:3

So what does this mean for Megan Shaw Photography?

2016 will be my last official year as a wedding photographer and my 2016 wedding calendar is full.

As for newborn photography, I will have more availability and weekend dates open for newborn photography sessions.

I will still offer the milestone packages for all newborn clients.

I will continue to photograph families, expecting Momma’s, and high school Seniors.

Lastly, I want to thank all the Brides, Grooms, and families that have used my services over the last several years. While this is a bittersweet announcement for me to make, this is also a dream of mine that I couldn’t be happier to follow.

Also, thank you to my Husband, our families, my friends, and even my fellow photographers for all your past and continuing support.

To my husband Brooks, thank you for always encouraging me to follow my dreams. I am so incredibly blessed to have such a supportive, loving Husband like you. Your love and encouragement keeps me going everyday. Thank you for being my #1 cheerleader!
